July 17 & 18, 2014 (9:30 am to 4:30 pm)

Water is an element that can unite our Nations to serve a common purpose.

Invitation from the Turtle Lodge

Because of critical concerns expressed by different communities on what is happening to the element of Water, efforts are being made by groups and individuals trying to raise the level of understanding and efforts. The Turtle Lodge, being recognized as a sacred place for gatherings and ceremony, was approached by Elders and Grandmothers, to lead a gathering to go into ceremony and discussion regarding one of the elements of life – Water. The gathering will begin with a ceremony of the Little Boy Water Drum conducted by Elder Charlie Nelson from Roseau River, and Songs for the Water will be rendered by the Women. Sagkeeng First Nation quorum of Council has endorsed this gathering and has asked the Turtle Lodge to host it. An invitation is being extended to all First Nations and community members. People of all cultures are welcome to attend! Our primary concern is to find ways and means to have a united voice as the Original People. We will propose that a Treaty be signed amongst ourselves recognizing our sacred duties and responsibilities that our Creator has given us to speak for and to take care of the element of Water.
