Boozhoo! Dinay Makinitook! We regret to announce that our Youth and Grandmother-led Fundraising event: Returning to Our Way of Life has been cancelled, as we were not able to meet our quota for selling tables. For all those who had bought tables, we thank you for your support. Hopefully we will be able to garner enough support to reschedule the event soon! Please consider donating to the Turtle Lodge to raise funds for the upgrading and revitalization of infrastructure and programming of our traditional lodge of learning and healing.  Click here to donate!
In 2002, based on a model that came through a vision, the Turtle Lodge was built in Sagkeeng First Nation, Manitoba.  The Turtle Lodge is a place for sharing our universal and ancient knowledge, for reconnecting ourselves to the Earth and Nature, and also, a place for sharing among people of all colours and nations.  The Turtle Lodge offers Children, Youth, Adults and Elders the opportunity to come together in a sacred environment for: Traditional teachings, Ceremony, Healing and the Sharing of Indigenous perspectives on how to have a good and peaceful life.
At the Turtle Lodge, programs are held to teach our young people and our adults about our traditions, as well as share our First Nations’ perspectives with people from all colours and walks of life. Our Elders tell us that many of the problems we face in our communities are a result of being displaced and losing our connection to the land and our spiritual way of life.  Today, the Grandmother Turtle Lodges is called to address problems such as suicide, drug abuse and diabetes, and to bring back our pride as a people.  Other communities have now begun initiating Turtle Lodges which reflect their own community’s uniqueness, teachings, ceremonies, foods and languages.  We believe that the Turtle Lodges will also bring unity and sharing among our communities.
We wish to upgrade the original Grandmother Turtle Lodge to make it more accessible to people across the country, especially to all our First Nation communities.  We need to fix the road, build a parking lot, expand the Turtle Lodge by adding 8 additional teaching and healing programming classrooms, build a living roof, a groundskeeper residence, and an on-site bunk-house with kitchen and bathroom facilities for youth to stay overnight for programs that last a few days.  We have also added new programming on each of the 13 Full Moons of the year.
Your support will help us raise the money for these upgrades and programming.  Most of our work to date has been by volunteers, as a labour of love.  Please donate online through our website or send your cheque payable to the Turtle Lodge to: PO Box 1267 Pine Falls MB R0E 1M0 Tax receipts are available upon request as we are a registered charity.  For more information please contact us at turtlelodge@mts.net.
