Let’s Build the Turtle Lodge Bunkhouse!
We hope that people of all colours will join us again in this effort, that will help support the return of a way of life! Building the Bunkhouse will allow people to stay on-site overnight as they experience a fuller range of Turtle Lodge land-based programming and ceremony.
Please contact us if you would like to volunteer to help build the Turtle Lodge Bunkhouse next Spring! We will be posting more details as we get closer to our Construction date!
We are currently looking for donations of materials and funds for dimensional lumber, shingles, windows, floors, siding and tools. We will also be making a call for kitchen appliances, tables, chairs, and beds at a later time!
The original Turtle Lodge was built as a labour of love by volunteers and donated materials in 2002-2003. Mohawk ironworkers from Akwesasne and northern New York state laid the foundation, young people went out in the bush to get tamarack trees from Sagkeeng for lumber, white pines were brought in from Eagle Lake, Ontario, and volunteers answered the call from across North America and from as far as Germany, Colombia, and Peru. We are making this call on faith again – knowing that a Lodge built in this way brings in the Spirit!
