Sagkeeng’s missing and murdered Indigenous women honoured with ceremony at Turtle Lodge – March 29, 2017

TURTLE LODGE, SAGKEENG FIRST NATION, MANITOBA — Community members gathered with the families of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls from Sagkeeng First Nation on Wednesday March 29, 2017, to honour those who were lost with a traditional ceremony.  A special starblanket – commissioned and shared in their honour – will reside permanently at Turtle Lodge.  Elders spoke about the devastating crisis of this violence toward women, sharing their perspectives about its root causes and solutions, as the community moves forward in healing.
