LETTER FROM DAVE COURCHENE

I have just received notice from the federal government that they have agreed to provide funding for 7 months for a medication I need for a health issue I am dealing with, with possible continuance if the doctor feels that it is working. Given the recent development of the government stepping forward to offer this support, I want to offer my fullest gratitude for how the People have stepped forward to give me such overwhelming support so that I would not be denied the treatments that are currently available. I have chosen to accept the Canadian government’s support, which is their responsibility under their Treaty obligation to our People. To all those who have contributed to the purchasing of this medication, we will return all contributions that have been made toward its purchase. For me it has never really been about the medication itself.  For me, it has been more about the expression of the love by those who have given overwhelming support. I believe that the real healing has come through the Spirit that has worked through the hearts of those who have found it in their hearts to give.  I have benefited so much because of your commitment and efforts toward my cause.  I cannot find the words to express how grateful I am for the support and love that you have given me. I have never lost hope that the Creator will provide me with everything I need to support my journey of healing.  The real power in our healing will be found within ourselves as People, as the power of the love of the Creator is expressed through the hearts of the People. We have the power to disengage from a system when it doesn’t work for us.  We must never allow ourselves to be totally dependent on a system that may not always be there to support our healing. For me this is the beginning of a journey to a longer life.  We are about to reclaim our true Leadership as a People, to announce to the world that we are the roots and the voice, the Leaders of our Homeland. With the upcoming event of June 4 and 5, 2015, we welcome everyone to join us in this historic and defining moment. Our work must continue at the Turtle Lodge and I hope that People will continue to support us in that work. Our efforts must be about creating opportunities for Young People to hear the knowledge of the Original People. Once again, Miigwetch – thank you from the bottom of my heart.
